The Vacancy
The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate calculation, reporting, and compliance of payroll taxes at the federal, state, and local levels. This position will play a critical role in processing payroll tax filings, ensuring timely payments, resolving tax discrepancies and tax notices for multiple clients, and maintaining compliance with current payroll tax regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Tax Compliance: Ensure the accurate calculation, reporting, and payment of all federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
Tax Filing: Prepare and file payroll tax returns (941, 940, state unemployment, etc.) in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
Tax Payments: Process and reconcile payroll tax payments and ensure payments are made accurately and on time to the appropriate tax authorities.
Wage and Tax Reconciliations: Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of payroll tax accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are identified and corrected.
Tax Audits: Assist with internal and external audits by preparing tax schedules and providing supporting documentation as needed.
Stay Current on Legislation: Monitor changes in payroll tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance with new requirements. Advise management of upcoming changes and their potential impact.
System Maintenance: Work with payroll software and systems to ensure payroll tax tables are updated and reflect current regulations.
Year-End Reporting: Assist with the preparation and filing of W-2s, 1099s, and other year-end payroll tax forms, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Employee Assistance: Address and resolve payroll tax issues for employees, including answering questions about tax withholdings and filings.
Process Improvements: Identify and implement improvements to payroll tax processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations (federal, state, and local).
- Proficiency in payroll systems and tax software
- Advanced Excel skills
